Update
Got an email from LJ warning that my paid account will expire in 12 days. Thus my first LJ update in - let me check - six months.
Tumblr and Sina Weibo are my crack dealers now, so LJ isn't as ~essential to my fandom life as it once was. It's a shame really, because I still think LJ's comment threads and communities are the best formats (offered by social networks I've tried) for discussion and debate. Platforms like tumblr are better choices if you want to hang with people you like and avoid those you don't, but then your fandom outlook becomes narrower as you're insulated from different opinions.
I guess it boils down to fundamental attitudes toward fandom. For me, fandom is supposed to be a source of joy. Some trouble/wank is unavoidable - nothing in this world brings pure joy without any negative add-ons/side-effects. I do want my experience in any chosen fandom to be mostly happy though, even at the cost of making myself more provincial.
I've set all past entries private (mass security edits, ~thank thee) before paid account expires. I used to take a hiatus from LJ when I left a fandom, only to return when I found a new one. This time I'm not leaving any fandom; I've found better platforms for all my fandoms. It's like sad or something.
